A woman in our department had a baby boy on Tuesday.  Unfortunately for her, her husband's last name is Bush.  So now everyone is telling her she should legally change the baby's last name to Obama. :-)

11:11 am: potluck recipes?
i need some ideas.  next week our director is having a potluck dinner at her house, and i need ideas on what to bring.  the problem is, we are heading over there directly from work (3 pm), and no one is bringing anything warm.  i'd really prefer to eat something other than chips and desserts, so if you have any suggestions for reheatable or crock-pot dishes, let me know :-)

02:21 pm: hooray!  david's windshield has been replaced, and i have an insurance report and paperwork to get my car fixed!  i'm glad it all worked out :-)

02:40 pm: phew, this week has been crazy.  now that i still have a job, i've been working like crazy this week.  everyone's pushing to get their projects done before they start canceling programs.  weeee.

this, in addition to the fact that david had midterms this week, has meant that i've spent most of my evenings in a puddle on the couch, watching way too much tv.  i <3 mindless tv.

this weekend is more halloween goodness.  we're going to the calabasas pumpkin festival, which should be awesome.  right now they're painting our building, but as soon as it's dry, the decorating will begin!  hooray for halloween!

10:08 pm:  you know what sucks?  having a fever that matches the temperature outside.  and sitting inside under a blanket with shivers and goosebumps.  what a glorious start to a 4 day weekend.  i hope you are all having a better weekend than i am :-p

12:04 pm: i'm in shock right now.  this is so horrible.  i can't believe people would do stuff like this.  and i can't believe it happened right across the street.  my labmates and i are going there this afternoon with flowers, but i'm not sure i'm going to feel so safe walking to the parking lot anymore...

edit: and it's ironic that this is the second time this week these apartments have been in the news, the first being in the article in the l.a. times saying that these nice small homes were being overshadowed by amgen.  funny how they can report on the big, bad biotech company, but not mention the terrible tragedy that actually happened there.  and to an amgen employee, no less.

10:55 am: coming in 2 weeks to the park near my apartment... the gin blossoms!!  yeah, that's right, the gin blossoms!  talk about a vh1 "where are they now?" story...  anywho, if anyone wants to relive some awesome high school memories, come join me for what i'm sure will be a hilarious evening.  august 18th.  :-)

david and i are trying to plan a trip to disneyland while his 3 year old niece is in town, but his family is pretty big - and even with my company discount, tickets are expensive!  and then - boom!  i just won 4 tickets on the radio! :-D  i feel so lucky right now :-)  ooo, i should go buy a lottery ticket!

11:11 am: i <3 the police!!! :-D  and their special opening act... the foo fighters!  it was incredibly awesome.  foo fighters for an hour, the police for almost 2 hours, 55,000 people in dodger stadium singing along to everything.  their opening song was amazing... an entire stadium full of people singing "i'm sending out an s.o.s." :-)   it was a great feeling to hear the music that i grew up listening to live and with such passionate fans.

in other news, ingrid, david and i helped sara move into her apartment yesterday.  yay for cute new neighbors! ;-)
